Incredible “Erotic” Monk Snuff Box. A late C18th early C19th Novelty designed to shock the person asking for or being offered snuff. Beautifully carved from fruitwood (plum I think) he has taken on a wonderful patination. The two prayer books he carries contain spikes which locate in holes in the flaps to hold them closed. Fabulous untouched condition throughout. A very rare piece. Circa 1790-1800
