Stunning early C16th, Minnekästchen or Venetian casket from the Friuli-Venezia Giulia area of Northern Italy. The condition is Incredible being completely original and untouched with original hinges and hasp. The iron hasp has an unusual upturn formed as a snakes head, above the catch is a sitting fly. Inside the box features a small till with carved lid. The front shows two inward facing guardian Griffins (a feature of early Northern Italian Architecture) protecting the hasp and lock, surrounded by fine punch decoration which also shows on the edge of the lid. Made and dovetailed in Cedar Wood throughout this is a very Rare and beautiful box of outstanding museum standard. Circa 1620
