An exquisite example of a very Rare ‘Tea Pot’ Tea Caddy. Dating from the early 19th Century and from the same ‘Novelty’ family of tea caddy’s such as Apples, Pears, Squash’s and others. Painted to look at home on a Satinwood sideboard and decorated with leaves and vines with gilded adornments to the finial, spout and handle. In overall excellent condition with only minimal wear and tear from it’s constant use. With original hinge, lock and escutcheon but alas no key. Originally tinned to the inside to keep the tea fresh, this has now mainly gone leaving a superb dry surface. The shape is superb and reminiscent of a Porcelain tea pot of the late 18th Century.

There are few known examples of these tea caddy’s as with the ‘fruit’ models they did not stand up to daily use very well and as such with the ‘fruit’ models they have become highly collectible. Circa 1800-20
