Incredible massive heavy William and Mary Lignum Vitae Pestle and Mortar with original LID……Yes lid!!! Never seen one before. Standing at over 11 inches tall and with a diameter of over 8 inches this piece is huge. With the the pestle and lid it stands at just under 16 inches tall. The lid has lost it’s metal fixings to keep it in place. The centre hole is lined with metal to guide the pestle up and down onto whatever was being pounded. With only a couple of minor loses to base rim and pestle knob this rare early piece is in fabulous original condition. No splits to the sides and only a little shrinkage to the base this pole lathe turned beauty is a real collectors piece. Fabulous rich dark patination weighing in at nearly 19lbs. Circa 1690
