Superb rare ‘salesman’ example of a 19th Century Satin Wood Linen Press with three Mahogany lined slides with dovetails, the fronts faced in Satin Wood. The three drawers are graduated and banded in Mahogany, again with Mahogany linings and beautifully dovetailed. The drawer fronts with miniature handles. The doors have inlaid ovals cross banded in rosewood. There is a small catch and a miniature lock on the right hand door. The feet are slightly splayed giving the whole cupboard wonderful proportions. As a ‘salesman’ piece I believe the pediment was left in a plain fashion so the customer could choose from a flat cornice with perhaps dentil moulding or a more ornate arched and broken pediment. Both were in fashion at the time….Perhaps the final Pediment choice made from drawings……This is an extremely well made piece, very detailed, maybe even an Apprentice piece then used to show what was on offer and could be made. The piece is of fine quality with working slides and drawers with superb colour and patination.
