Rare late 18th Century Naive ‘Hunters Cup’ from Breton

A stunning and Rare 18th Century ‘Hunters Cup. Tactile and beautifully carved from a single piece of Boxwood. Each end has a naive face carved, the sides shaped as if they are folding in. The curved underside is decorated with scratch carved geometric patterns. The surface and patina are untouched from years of use, handling and wine. These were carried by French Hunters, usually on a small leather strap on the belt and meant to be held in the ‘cup’ of the hand. Hence the name Hunters Cup. This one dates to around 1760-80 and 14 cm’s long. They extremely rare in this condition.
