Just superb 18th Century Memento Mori treen Pipe Tamper possibly in Walnut. With an excellent ‘warm’ patination one would suppose from years of Tobacco stained thumb and fore finger holding the skull and tampering down the tobacco in the pipe furnace. Almost certainly a Sailor carved piece it remains in remarkable original condition being the full height it started life out as…..8 cm’s. Dating from 1730-40 it is a super and rare item of early treen.
