A very rare sail makers wax box. The sailmaker would have drawn his thread through the box via the slot on either side. The box would would be filled with wax or more likely tallow to water proof the thread against the elements. Made from chestnut and in amazing condition and with the name J BALMIRE this survivor dates from around 1860. certainly a collectors piece and a part of history
