A Rare and desirable 19th Century Papier Machè Snuffbox with two fine paintings. The first as seen on the cover showing a serving Girl dropping a tray with drinks or jug of water, startling two customers. When this lid is removed it reveals a secondary cover painting of an Erotic nature that shocked the serving Girl as She entered the room.
A cleverly designed box of the day by virtue the user could remove the two covers at the same time if offering snuff to a Lady but if with his Gentleman friends he could, if desired, just remove the first lid and give them a ‘naughty’ look.
In superb condition throughout with bright and vibrant colours. A Rare and highly collectible snuffbox of outstanding quality.
