An extremely rare and definitely the best Snuff Pistol I have ever seen. Carved from a solid piece of French Walnut (Ballast) with only the ‘Jaw Screw’ added originally. The trigger guard is a piece of worked brass and the ‘heal’ on the stock is an inset piece of Pewter. There is stunning Faux etched decoration and carved embellishments to the walnut body. The ‘door’ works perfectly and snaps shut with the original hinge. A very realistic interpretation of an C18th double barrelled flintlock duelling pistol. The whole piece is a stunning colour and patination. Most likely a Sailor made item as a gift or as was often the case, made to sell to supplement voyage wages. Fabulous quality and extremely tactile. Circa 1760-80
