Extremely Rare 19th Century skull with bone snake ink well. On the lid sits a small frog as with the Tobacco Jars. These are usually modelled as a Tobacco jar more commonly. They are Japanese for the Victorian ‘tourist’ (export) market. This is maybe a special order one off looking at the hinge. It has a tiny glass bottle liner for ink. The snake is bone. It is in perfect untouched condition. 6.5 cm’s tall and carved from fruitwood. Lovely mellow colour and patination. Circa 1840-60
