Stunning Italian C17th Fruitwood Utensil Container. The top beautifully carved with King Herod and other figures, the sides with Neo Classical swags. The bottom swings on an original nail. The box would have Facilitated utensils for a professional such as Barber/Surgeon, Physician. In the 17th Century Surgeons, Barbers, dentists were all the same person. A kind of ‘jack of all trades’ It was only later that people started to specialise in certain areas and much later than Europe so we don’t see these unusual once utilitarian items. This is a very rare piece indeed……Circa 1640-60
