Superb 19th Century French Farriers Boxwood Erotic snuff bottle with original stopper spike for taking snuff. A very unusual example carved both sides with an Erotic scene. Carved in a Satirical fashion with a surprising look on the Horse or Donkeys face. Each face Brass pinned to a central chequered carved core in the shape of a Horse Shoe and nailed in a similar fashion. A plug in the bottom unscrews for re-filling. The ‘bottle’ stands 8 cm’s high and just under 2 cm’s wide. A superb colour and patination. Circa 1840 ( there is a penned date of 1881 when I think it was given as a gift.
