Incredible and exquisite pierced Welsh fruitwood ‘Love Token’ wall tidy (candle box) made entirely from European Pear wood in perfect undamaged condition, a rare survivor. This Fruitwood was extremely popular in the 19th Century as a fine joinery timber being extremely strong, stable and suitable for very fine work such as intricate piercing. It was steamed in it’s raw state to even out it’s pinky/red colour across certain boards. Often also used for Love Spoons of similar piercing. This particular piece is immaculate throughout with no repairs. It is of wonderful colour and patination. The very best available. Circa 1810-20
